POSITION TITLE: CTE Professional School Counselor

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

REPORTS TO: CTE Director

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Contract with salary and dates to be established by the Board of Education.

 

APPOINTMENT:
The counselor shall be recommended by the CTE director and the superintendent and approved by the board.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Standing, walking, sitting, lifting, and carrying (up to 10 pounds), reaching, squatting, climbing stairs, kneeling, and moving furniture may be required. The position requires the ability to perceive the nature of the object with the eye and to give and receive information through effective speaking, listening, and writing skills.

 

JOB SUMMARY:
The primary function of the CTE counselor in Mississippi is to provide a comprehensive developmental guidance and counseling program for all public school children enrolled in the CTE program; to consult with parents/guardians, teachers, and other school staff members to enhance their effectiveness in guiding and supporting students in progressing through the CTE programs and in planning their careers; and to provide support for other education programs.

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Disseminates information regarding career and technical education opportunities.
  2. Provides CTE guidance and information for students seeking a future other than college.
  3. Provides orientation of incoming high school students concerning CTE offerings.
  4. Remains up-to-date on changing job-entry skill requirements and changing technologies in business and industry.
  5. Informs local businesses and industries about CTE programs in the schools and seeks information on their job requirements.
  6. Meets with representatives of businesses and industries to discuss their programs and requirements and to arrange meetings with students.
  7. Cooperates with business and industry on job references for former students.
  8. Arranges for business and industrial representatives to interview graduates as prospective employees.
  9. Maintains a file of catalogs, school profiles, and scholarship aid information related to schools, colleges, and institutions offering postsecondary CTE training and education.
  10. Selects, administers, and interprets standardized tests to assist students in making appropriate career choices.
  11. Schedules the administration and individual interpretation of the general aptitude test.
  12. Assists students who wish to make an application to postsecondary CTE programs.
  13. Maintains adequate cumulative records on students in CTE classes.
  14. Interprets CTE to the community.
  15. Prepares follow-up studies of former students of CTE for the purpose of improving services and evaluating the effectiveness of the program.
  16. Any additional duties assigned by the supervisor.
